About Nala Designs & Lindsay Welch
Experience the beauty of handcrafted jewelry.
When I sit at my work bench, I start by connecting to the materials in front of me. Bringing together ethically sourced and up-cycled metals, combining these with natural elements of stone, shells and wood, the materials I use matter to me. I’m honored and privileged to have inherited many tools from my grandfather, bringing a lineage of metal smithing to the pieces I create.
The choices we make in how we adorn our bodies speak to what’s important to us. Jewelry can signify a commitment to each other and ourselves, a reminder of a special moment, or serve as a touch-point throughout our day.
As you explore my shop, I hope you find pieces that speak to you and support you in your own journey.
Behind the name Nala Designs
Simultanteous to starting this business, I was aware of the increasing threats to women’s healthcare. During the pandemic, women I know around the world were impacted when maternal health funds were reallocated to infectious diseases. At home in the US, women’s access to healthcare has stepped backwards resulting in limited access to care and increased costs. We need to do better. I knew I wanted to donate a portion of sales to women’s healthcare. And I wanted a name that reflected my commitment to doing better for future generations of women.
While I was contemplating names, a close friend came to stay with me for the weekend. As he was updating me on his young daughter, I learned that her name - Nala - meant “beloved”. I’d already started working on the series of LOVED rings, and naming my silversmithing work in honor of his daughter felt like the right fit. With their blessing, Nala Designs was born.
